Congo Accountability Network

Congo Accountability Network (CAN) is an international, peaceful and non-violent movement initiated by Team Congo to challenge the impunity that has harmed the Congo for more than three decades. Bringing together citizens, activists, survivors, researchers, artists, and members of the diaspora worldwide, CAN confronts the silence and complicity surrounding genocide, mass displacement, and resource exploitation. Through peaceful tools of resistance - boycott, divestment, sanctions and public mobilization - CAN exposes the truth and demands accountability.

Why CAN Exists

For more than three decades, The Republic Democratic of Congo has endured mass killings, widespread sexual violence, the forced displacement of millions, and the systematic looting of its natural resources - all sustained by international silence and complicity. At the center of this suffering is a system of impunity that allows governments, corporations, and institutions to profit without accountability. CAN exists to confront that system by exposing the truth, identifying responsible actors, and building sustained political, economic, and moral pressure to ensure that complicity finally carries a cost.

Who We Are

Initiated by Team Congo, CAN was created to channel global solidarity into concrete, coordinated action. We connect people and organizations across continents who believe that Congolese lives, history, and resources must no longer be treated as expendable. As a peaceful and non-violent movement, CAN brings together citizens, activists, survivors, researchers, artists, and members of the diaspora who refuse silence and complicity in the face of ongoing atrocities. United by a shared commitment to justice, we work collectively to expose the truth, confront exploitation, and build a global front that defends the dignity and sovereignty of the Congolese people.

Our core 4 pillars of action

CAN is rooted in non-violent resistance and strategic, people-powered pressure.
Our work is organized around four main pillars:

We CAN Boycott

We organize targeted boycotts against companies that profit from, enable, or remain complicit in exploitation, violence, or displacement in Congo.
Through consumer power, we send a clear message: there is no ethical profit in Congolese blood.

We CAN Divest

We call on universities, pension funds, faith institutions, foundations, and other investors to withdraw money from companies, funds, and structures tied to Congo’s exploitation.
Divestment cuts the financial lifeline of impunity.

We CAN Sanction

We advocate for political, economic, and legal measures against states, corporations, and individuals responsible for crimes or complicity in Congo. From visa bans to asset freezes and legal cases, sanctions are a tool to make power answer to justice.

We CAN Protest

We organize marches, sit-ins, vigils, creative actions, and global days of mobilization to break the silence surrounding Congo.
Our protests center Congolese voices and demand that the world no longer look away.
