Genocost: Genocide of the Congolese People for Economic Gain

The Genocost Campaign was initiated by CAYP (Congolese Action Youth Platform) to advocate for the recognition of the genocide of Congolese people for economic gain.

For more than three decades, the Democratic Republic of the Congo has endured mass atrocities, widespread violence against civilians, and the exploitation of its natural resources committed by Rwanda.

In 2022, the Government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo officially established 2 August as the National Day of Remembrance dedicated to the victims of the Genocost. Every year on this day, we honour the memory of the victims, stand with the survivors, and renew our commitment to truth, justice, and accountability.

WHAT IS CAN

How to record your video

1. Record your video vertically.

2. Your video should be no longer than 20 seconds.

3. A standard-quality video will work.

4. Find a quiet, well-lit place.

5. Leave 2 seconds of silence before you start speaking and 2 seconds after you finish to help us with editing.

6. Begin by saying, in your own language: "From [your city], we do not forget you."

7. End with the Free Congo sign. Hold the sign for 2–3 seconds before ending your video.

8. Submit your original video. Please do not add music, filters, subtitles, or any editing.

9. Before sending your video, rename it using the following format:

Country_City_NameOrNickname_Language

Example: France_Paris_Bazeli_FR.mp4

10. Once your video is ready, complete the short form below and submit your video to join the global campaign.
